Former Pakistani Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto was assassinated today in Pakistan. Reports state that she was shot dead at a political rally, and then a suicide bomber detonated themself and also took out about 15 more of her supporters. Apparently a radical practitioner of the Religion of Peace™ is to blame. Imagine that. It’s unsure yet if the bomber was tied to any known terrorist groups, such as al-Qaeda, and anything is possible at this point. Some are even blaming Prime Minister Musharraf.
From Sky News:
…Benazir Bhutto was shot dead at a political rally.
The gunman then detonated a bomb, killing at least 15 of her supporters. Many more were injured in the suicide blast.
Her assassination is really a shame and a blow to the Pakistani people. Mrs. Bhutto, who had issues of her own and was certainly not perfect, was possibly the best hope for bringing security and stability to that region, and her death will serve to embolden the radicals. She was the first female leader of a Muslim country, was very pro-West, believed in separation of religion from the government (anti-sharia law), was staunchly against radical Islamic extremism, and also against the military dictatorship of Musharraff.
Al-Qaeda is reportedly claiming credit (hat tip: MM):
From AKI:
A spokesperson for the al-Qaeda terrorist network has claimed responsibility for the death on Thursday of former Pakistani prime minister Benazir Bhutto.
“We terminated the most precious American asset which vowed to defeat [the] mujahadeen,” Al-Qaeda’s commander and main spokesperson Mustafa Abu Al-Yazid told Adnkronos International (AKI) in a phone call from an unknown location, speaking in faltering English. Al-Yazid is the main al-Qaeda commander in Afghanistan.
Some are blaming Musharraf, because supporters of another former Prime Minister were also targeted in another attack.
From TimesOnline:
The latest bombing was the second outbreak of political violence in Pakistan today. Earlier, gunmen opened fire on supporters of another former prime minister, Nawaz Sharif, from an office of the party that supports President Musharraf, killing four Sharif supporters, police said.
She was also targeted a couple of months ago when a radical practitioner of the Religion of Peace™ tried to kill her by hiding a bomb on a small child. That explosion killed dozens and wounded hundreds. She was apparently targeted as recently as yesterday as well.
From Washington Post:
At her homecoming reception in the port city of Karachi, suicide bombing attacks killed 140 people. Her appearances had drawn large crowds and stringent security checkpoints. At a rally in Peshawar on Wednesday, police stopped a would-be bomber with explosives around his neck. Thursday’s rally was relatively sparsely attended, according to those present, apparently because people feared additional attempts at violence.”
There is reportedly already chaos in Pakistan, with mass riots. I have a bad feeling that it’s only going to get worse, and the situation does not bode well for peace in the region of for the people of Pakistan. And it’s also very important to remember that Pakistan has nukes. If one of the nukes falls into the hands of any of the Islamofascitard radical extremists… uhh, not good.
My sincerest condolences to the family and close associates of Mrs. Bhutto, and to the people of Pakistan. They have lost a true friend and hero.
*update* New reports suggest she was killed as the result of a fractured skull, and was not hit by the gunfire. LittleGreenFootballs has more.
