When I think of ‘art,’ I think of Rembrandt, Picasso, Van Gogh, Da Vinci, or actors performing classic stage performances of Shakespeare.  I sure as hell don’t think of some asinine college student self-inducing miscarriages and abortions and calling it ‘art.’  Yale has said it was all a hoax.  The artist herself says Yale is wrong, it’s real. (hat tip: MM)

Either way, it’s quite possibly the sickest idea of an art project I have ever heard of.  If this passes as ‘art’ and is the kind of crap that college art programs produce these days, then we should all get our damn taxmoney back.

From Yale Daily News:

Shvarts will be displaying her senior art project, a documentation of a nine-month process during which she artificially inseminated herself “as often as possible” while periodically taking abortifacient drugs to induce miscarriages. Her exhibition will feature video recordings of these forced miscarriages as well as preserved collections of the blood from the process.

The goal in creating the art exhibition, Shvarts said, was to spark conversation and debate on the relationship between art and the human body. But her project has already provoked more than just debate, inciting, for instance, outcry at a forum for fellow senior art majors held last week. And when told about Shvarts’ project, students on both ends of the abortion debate have expressed shock — saying the project does everything from violate moral code to trivialize abortion.

But Shvarts insists her concept was not designed for “shock value.”

What total unmitigated bovine excrement.

One Response to “Abortion as ‘art?’”

That’s almost as bad as a twenty-something year old male college graduate who has never heard of ZZ Top and asked “Is he any good?”.
