On Friday, August 29, John McCain announced that he had chosen Alaska’s Governor Sarah Palin to be his running mate.  I’m impressed with her and think it was a very wise choice.  She’s known to be very conservative, which placates the Republican base, and as a female she is sure to attract some disenfranchised Hillary Clinton supporters.  I’m sure some people wonder, though, who is Sarah Palin?

First off, she’s a ‘hockey mom’ and mother of five, including a son who enlisted in the Army last year on September 11, three daughters, and a baby son with Down’s Syndrome.  Her husband is a blue collar guy who’s been a commercial fisherman and oil worker who has also won the 1900 mile Iron Dog snowmobiling race multiple times.  Her favorite meal is moose stew.

She’s been a PTA leader, city council woman and mayor of her hometown, and currently serving as Governor of Alaska.  That’s more ‘real’ executive experince than Obama, who’s only served in a charity with admitted-terrorist William Ayers, briefly as an Illinois State Senator, and less than 150 days as a US Senator before beginning his campaign to be President.  During all of that time, he really has little to no legislative accomplishments to speak of.  Someone please tell me one significant piece of legislation he’s sponsored that’s been enacted?

Anywho, Sarah Palin has been unafraid to tackle corruption and ethics issues as well as standing up to the good ol boy network.  She’s even pushed to sue the Bush administration over the listing of polar bears as an endangered species.  She’s a social and fiscal conservative, an avid outdoorswoman, and lifetime member of the NRA.  Naturally, this infuriates the rabid liberal left.

Since her ascention into the limelight as McCain’s VP choice, rabid liberal leftist kooks have been nothing but hateful, lashing out with the most ridiculous of lies and accusations

While McCain was certainly not my first choice to be the Republican nominee, and there’s still some issues I have with him, his choice for running mate certainly makes me happy.  She’s a good, tough, smart cookie, with a strong family life, appreciation of individual rights, and no hesitation to do what’s right for her constituents.  Gotta admit too, she’s pretty easy on the eyes.

While the Obamessiah will continue to push for his leftist anti-capitalist anti-individualist policies, the selection of Sarah Palin has created a new boost among voters who might have previously been lukewarm about pulling the lever for McCain.  Although I still have some issues with him, especially concerning border security and immigration policies, I can now say that John McCain will more than likely get my vote.

Here’s a video someone had produced in anticipation of Sarah Palin being chosen as McCain’s running mate.

*update*  Reuters is reporting that Palin’s oldest daughter, who is 17, is pregnant. Look for the rabid left to be all over this with accusations of Palin being a failed parent, hypocrite, blah blah blah. Personally, I think it just shows that situations like that can affect any and all families. The daughter reportedly intends to keep the baby and marry the father.
