L.A. to require home improvement stores to provide space for ‘day laborers’
Posted by: Random-American in Crime, Illegal Immigration/Border Security, Nanny StateNow the sanctuary city of Los Angeles is planning to require home improvement stores to provide space for ‘day laborers?’ Let’s not kid ourselves here, everyone and their brother knows that the majority of ‘day laborers’ in these sanctuary cities are illegal aliens, but the article doesn’t even mention that. So the city is essentially going to mandate a private business to aid and abet the illegal hiring of illegal aliens. Sanctuary cities are continuing to openly ignore federal laws. It is illegal to hire an illegal alien. But let’s not let any little distractions like laws get in the way of the open-borders crowd, eh?
If a city wants to have a city-ran site for day labor, fine. But they should be required to check the work eligibility status of everyone that comes in. And if a private business chooses (not forced) to have their own day labor gathering site, they should also be required to check the legal work eligibility status of the people using it, lest they be breaking federal law. That being said, at least the illegals are actively looking for work. That’s more than can be said for numerous American citizens who would rather collect money from the public dole.
Sanctuary cities and even we, as a nation, continue to encourage, aid, and abet illegal immigration. Yet, gee…for some reason, we can’t seem to figure out why it keeps happening? (hat tip: MM)
From Los Angeles Daily News:
Companies that open large home-improvement stores in Los Angeles would have to set aside space for day laborers under an ordinance unanimously approved today by a City Council committee.
The proposed ordinance was passed by the Planning and Land Use Management Committee, but must still be approved by the full council.
If passed, the ordinance would require new home improvement stores that are 100,000 square feet or larger, or any building or structure where 250,000 square feet or more of warehouse floor area is added, to set aside space for day laborers seeking employment from customers.
The shelters would have to be easily accessible and equipped with drinking water, bathrooms, tables with seating and trash facilities.
