Ok, so new voter registrations are up and a significant portion of those registrations are for Democrats. So who’s pushing the voter registration drives?
From Las Vegas Review Journal:
Analysts have attributed much of the surge to interest in the election and enthusiasm for Democratic candidate Barack Obama among young people and blacks, traditionally two groups that register and vote at lower rates than the population as a whole.
But as a day spent with canvassers showed, the new voters aren’t lining up at the county building to register themselves. Rather, they’re being aggressively recruited.
“We approach them. We bring the issue to them,” said Chris Edwards, ACORN’s Nevada field director. “We don’t wait for them to come to us.”
ACORN, which stands for the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, claims to have collected 60,000 new voter registrations in Clark County since February. The group, which works to promote the interests of lower-income people, is aiming for 100,000 by Labor Day.
…
Although the group is nonpartisan, it has an overt agenda of making government do more for the poor; it sees getting lower-income people to vote as a way of forcing politicians to address their concerns.
ACORN’s tactics are controversial.
The group has drawn accusations of voter fraud and criminal investigations in several states. Last year, authorities in Washington state brought felony charges against ACORN workers for filing false voter registrations.
Some ACORN workers pleaded guilty and went to jail, while the organization paid $25,000 and agreed to have its registration efforts monitored in a settlement with Washington state authorities.
Lomax said while he supports the goal of getting more people registered to vote, he sees rampant fraud in the 2,000 to 3,000 registrations ACORN turns in every week.
“Whenever people get paid to register voters, those individuals have an incentive to meet their quota, and that results sometimes in people doing things they shouldn’t,” Lomax said.
His office sends out thousands of letters based on registration applications that don’t have valid addresses or Social Security numbers, or have other suspicious irregularities.
The office also receives frequent complaints from people who have been notified of changes in their registration that they say they didn’t make.
“There’s no question it’s a crime. It says right there on the form it’s a felony to put down false voter registration information,” said Lomax, who is working with authorities to see what can be done.
Voter fraud associated with Democrats? Imagine that. Here’s more.. (hat tip: MM)
From NY Times:
Two prominent national nonprofit groups are reeling from public disclosures that large sums of money were misappropriated in unrelated incidents by an employee and a former employee.
The groups, Acorn, one of the country’s largest community organizing groups, and the Points of Light Institute, which works to encourage civic activism and volunteering, have dealt with the problems in very different ways.
Acorn chose to treat the embezzlement of nearly $1 million eight years ago as an internal matter and did not even notify its board. After Points of Light noticed financial irregularities in early June, it took less than a month for management to alert federal prosecutors, although group officials say they have no clear idea yet what the financial impact may be.
A whistle-blower forced Acorn to disclose the embezzlement, which involved the brother of the organization’s founder, Wade Rathke.
The brother, Dale Rathke, embezzled nearly $1 million from Acorn and affiliated charitable organizations in 1999 and 2000, Acorn officials said, but a small group of executives decided to keep the information from almost all of the group’s board members and not to alert law enforcement.
Well gee, I just can’t imagine why Democrats would be so wholeheartedly against requiring an ID to vote, as upheld by the Supreme Court.

Please this elections is going to be a joke.. a lot ofpeople are going to vote Democrat just becasue Obama is African American and a ton of people are going to vote against him because he is. Does it really matter how many people sign up to vote? This election soesn’t seem to be based on qualities of a leader and ability. It is going to be about skin color sad to say. Just think, if Obama actually wins, we can look forward to yahoos like Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson getting involved… becasue they are great role models for any ethnic race right…(rolling my eyes)
People need to sign up to vote because it is their right as an American and their votes can make a difference. Yes we should have picture ID’s for registared voters. Heck Mexico does it why can’t we? That will help cut down on the amount of fraud there is out there. Yes people there is voter fraud…..
