But, but, but… the rabid anti-war crowd and those suffering from Bush Derangement Syndrome keep spewing that Saddam had no WMD, no nuke capacity, no nuke anything.  “Bush lied,” remember?  So where in the hell did the 550 metric tons of yellowcake uranium come from, hmmm?

And why is this not being discussed all over the mainstream media?  Ahh… wouldn’t be because of bias or anything, would it?

From AP via SeattlePI:

The last major remnant of Saddam Hussein’s nuclear program - a huge stockpile of concentrated natural uranium - reached a Canadian port Saturday to complete a secret U.S. operation that included a two-week airlift from Baghdad and a ship voyage crossing two oceans.

The removal of 550 metric tons of “yellowcake” - the seed material for higher-grade nuclear enrichment - was a significant step toward closing the books on Saddam’s nuclear legacy. It also brought relief to U.S. and Iraqi authorities who had worried the cache would reach insurgents or smugglers crossing to Iran to aid its nuclear ambitions.

read it all

The fact remains, Saddam was required by numerous UN resolutions to acknowledge ANY and ALL nuke materials to the UN inspectors and have it destroyed. He did not. He ignored every single flippin’ UN resolution. The response by the US (and overwhelmingly approved by Congress, including almost all Democrats) was to put some meat into the resolutions and actually back them up.

Saddam had yellowcake, and right freaking there is the proof. 550 metric tons of it. It is irrelevant where it came from or how old it was. Anyone still spouting the “Bush lied” mantra needs to eat a big bowl of shut the hell up.  I certainly won’t be holding my breath for the mainstream media to point that out though.

This is just dumb.  Global warming alarmism is getting out of hand.

From Greenbiz:

California is making it mandatory for cars to be labeled with global warming scores, figures that take into account emissions from vehicle use and fuel production.

The law requiring the labels goes into effect at the start of next year for all 2009 model cars, though its expected the labels will be popping up on cars in the coming months.

The labeling law forces cars for sale to display a global warming score, on a scale of one to 10, which is based on how vehicles in the same model year compare to one another. The higher the score, the cleaner a car is. The score takes into account emissions related to production of fuel for each vehicle as well as the direct emissions from vehicles.

The score will be displayed next to the already-required smog score, which also rates cars one to 10 for how many smog-forming emissions they emit.

What’s next, requiring people with a large carbon footprint or global warming deniers to start wearing distinctive insignia on their clothing?  Hmm, where have I heard of something like that before?  (hat tip: Anonymous)

Apparently Barack Obama has called for Americans to ’serve your country.’

From Reuters:

“Loving your country shouldn’t just mean watching fireworks on the 4th of July,” [Obama] said. “Loving your country must mean accepting your responsibility to do your part to change it.

…the future of the United States does not just depend on the military, he said, “It also depends on the teacher in East L.A., the nurse in Appalachia, the after-school worker in New Orleans, the Peace Corps volunteer in Africa and the Foreign Service officer in Indonesia.”

The future of the country also depends on entrepeneurs, manual laborers, scientists, engineers, retail workers, stock brokers, farmers, investors, small business owners and millions of hardworking Americans in the private sector.  Oops, guess he forgot to mention those, eh?

I’ve already served my country and I did so proudly.  I served when no one asked me to and I didn’t need some new government program to get me to do it.  I volunteered, without a politician telling me to.  And loving my country does NOT mean accepting my responsibility to change it.  I don’t want it ‘changed.’ I love it the way it is, fireworks, flag lapel pins and all.

Just out of curiosity, other than a brief stint as a Southside Chicago community organizer, how exactly has HE ’served’ our nation?  And no, being a politician doesn’t count.

Whew, thank God for global warming!  Just think how cold it’d be without it.

From Charlotte.com:

[July 2] was downright cool in the Charlotte region — cool enough to break a record that had stood for more than a century.

The temperature at Charlotte/Douglas International Airport was 56 at about 5:30 a.m., breaking the July 2 record of 58, set in 1885. The normal low for this time of year is 70.
